Doomscrolling is not only exhausting and draining, it often leaves you feeling worse than before. So instead of letting your screen time slip away into a black hole of endless feeds, why not try some hobbies that make you feel good, productive, and creative?

Remember when we used to do scrapbooking as kids? Why did we stop? It was fun, and we got to save our important memories creatively. Well, just to let you know that scrapbooking is still alive today.
And with so many of our pictures being saved on our devices, wouldn’t it be fun to start printing photos again and storing them in a scrapbook, photo album, or something similar? All you need to start is a few basics like a scrapbook photo album, an instant photo printer, and some double-sided tape.
If printing your own photos for a scrapbook is a challenge, you can go for junk journaling, which is the same concept — just with a mix of materials like old papers, envelopes, stamps, fabric scraps, receipts, magazine clippings, basically anything “junk.”

Gardening is one of those hobbies that’s both calming and rewarding. Even if you don’t have a big backyard, you can start small with a few potted plants, herbs on a windowsill, or some easy-to-care-for houseplants.

Honestly, it’s one of those hobbies where you can sit down for an hour, get completely absorbed, and forget about everything else. 5. Doing Your Own Nails
Getting your nails done has become really expensive these days, and the prices keep going up. So learning to do your own nails at home will not only be fun and creative, but also save you a lot of money.
You don’t have to go full-on gel as a beginner. You can start with simple, old-school nail polish or press-on nails as you keep building your skills. This way, you get to experiment with different colors, shapes, and designs whenever you feel like it.
It can turn into a little self-care moment you do on your own time, and at the end of it all, you not only have fresh nails, but you’re also saving money in the long run.

Some days your body just feels stiff, tired, or out of sync, and sitting on your phone all evening doesn’t help. Yoga and Pilates help you to slow down, stretch things out, and move your body around.

You start small with a few words or a simple tune, and before you know it, you can play a song or hold a short conversation. Just mess around with it and see what sticks. YouTube is a whole free university, afterall.
12. Watch and Review Movies (or Read and Review Books)
If you already love watching movies or reading books like I do, turning it into a hobby just adds purpose to it. Instead of just consuming, start paying attention to details in the stories, forming opinions, and noting things down. You can keep a simple list of what you’ve watched or read, rate them, write mini reviews, or compare characters and themes.
And if you want to take it further, you can start your own movie review TikTok page or book review account and share recommendations with others. It’s fun, social, and gives you something to look forward to after finishing every story.
Why Hobbies Beat Doomscrolling
The common thread with all these hobbies is that they engage your mind, body, or creativity in ways that doomscrolling never will. Instead of feeling drained and restless, you’ll feel accomplished, calm, and maybe even proud of what you created.
The key is to pick something that actually excites you. Don’t force yourself to knit if you hate it—maybe nail art or yoga will be your jam. Try one hobby for a month and see how it feels. You might find that you’re naturally drawn to something you never considered before, and suddenly your free time feels way more meaningful.
